Special Requirements of Position:
This position is of moderate complexity working as a temporary part-time dispatcher with the Fire Department. Must be willing and capable to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and shift work.

Kind of Work / Essiential Functions (This is descriptive, not restrictive as to all tasks included in this position):
Must possess good hand, foot and eye coordination. Must have good penmanship, a good voice and speech dictation qualities. Capable of monitoring, identifying and adjusting to various radio calls and phone signals. Must possess computer skills. Ability to identify, decipher and communicate radio and telephone messages with the public.

Work Environment/Hours Worked:
This dispatcher is on an as needed basis, to fill in for the other dispatchers that are out sick, on vacation, etc. Must be willing and capable to work on weekends, weekdays, holidays and shift work.

Equipment Used:
Telephone, computer and two-way radio.

Physical Involvement:
Sitting is required most of each workday to be readily accessible to the phone, radio and computer systems. Bending is performed on a frequent basis. Lifting up to 5 pounds, squatting and reaching are performed on an occasional basis. Climbing and kneeling may be performed on rare occasions.

Mental Involvement:
Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions from supervisor. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Human Relations Involvement:

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Must be at least 18 years old. Must possess excellent communication skills. Previous experience preferred.
